What’s happening for youth and children
at Prince of Peace?

Sunday School

Preschool - 2nd graders meet in the Preschool area at 9:15am for Sunday School.  The younger children have a Sunday School closing rather then a Sunday School opening to emphasize music and activities that are more geared to their particular ages and needs.
3rd graders up to high school meet in the Sanctuary for Sunday School Opening at 9:15am.  There is music, activities, birthday celebrations and mission projects.
Sunday School begins at 9:15 am The Sunday School curriculum is based on a holistic approach to teaching the Bible – meaning that the children and youth get to progress through all of the Bible over a multi-year rotation rather than just certain parts. Bible Memory Verse parties are held each quarter for children who memorize all of their Bible verses!  During Sunday School there are also Bible Study classes for adults.

Children’s Church
This program is available during the worship service for children from age 4 to 2nd grade. Children are invited up to the front for prayer with Pastor Tony and then they are walked back to the preschool classroom with a volunteer during the sermon for their own learning time. On Communion Sundays, the children return to parents prior to the Sacrament. On non-Communion Sundays, parents pick the children up from the preschool area after worship. Children are not released until the parents come to the classroom. Caring volunteers conduct Children’s Church and the program’s
curriculum closely follows the Sunday School curriculum to reinforce the lessons presented within Sunday School. A snack is also provided during this time.

Nursery
Nursery service is available during the worship service for children up to age 3. Staffed by adult and youth volunteers, the nursery is available for the entire service as well as during the All Ages Education Hour (Sunday School).

Wednesday Night - SODAPOP
We have a great Wednesday evening program that we call “SODAPOP” Strengthening Our Discipleship At Prince Of Peace. We start at 4:15pm with games, then the Youth and children break out into their age groups and rotate through station-based activities like service projects, hand bells, chimes, choir, drama, and more. Afterwards they have dinner in multi-aged table groups and compete in zany table games. At the end of the evening, the youth and children return to their age groups and spend time together in Bible Study.

Youth Group
We have a very active youth group for both senior high (grades 9-12) and junior high (grades 7 & 8) age students. Led by our Youth Pastor, Peter Berg and a team of volunteers including parents, Concordia University students, and other helpers. The youth study God’s Word, serve others, have fun and worship God. The youth do frequent trips to the beach, camping, paintballing, water-skiing and tubing, hiking, miniature golf, summer camp or some other fun activity! Our youth also serve the
community through service projects and fundraisers. Our youth groups at Prince of Peace are a great place to grow in your faith, meet new friends, and be challenged to be your best.

Theatre Group
Associated with our youth groups, the POP Youth perform theatre performances and
dinner theatre as well as assist in the Prince of Peace Christmas Pageant.

Youth Worship Team
The Youth Worship Team participates in worship services by helping lead music and singing. The youth work to learn new songs and grow in their leadership skills. The Youth Worship Team is an integral part of Youth Sunday that occurs on every 5th Sunday of the month.

Confirmation
Confirmation is an important part of our youth’s faith development. Confirmation is
typically done in 5th and 6th grade but the classes are open to older youth and adults. The confirmation classes are held on Wednesday evenings during the Bible Study portion of SODA POP.

Guitar classes
Youth Pastor, Peter Berg, conducts free weekly guitar lessons for youth and children. Some of the students are also involved in the Youth Worship Team. The guitar lessons are held on Wednesdays during SODAPOP.

To participate in these activities or to get more information, please contact our Youth Pastor, Peter Berg, at 687-7455 or at west98671@mac.com.
